History

The Silhouettes were formed in 1999 as a melodic and individualistic rebellion against the totalitarianism of the multinational music industry. The band played their last gig to date in early winter 2001, before entering a complete two-and-a-half-year hiatus. Since then, The Silhouettes have occasionally reunited for studio sessions, which yielded their debut album, Rautalankarenessanssi (released in summer 2007), and a second full-length album, The Ocean of Sunken Dreams (released in October 2010). The band's most globally renowned track is "Tornado"-the opening song of their debut album-whose music video, featuring footage from an old animated film, has garnered over four million views on YouTube.

After nearly 15 years of radio silence, the Silhouettes saga unexpectedly continued when, just before Midsummer 2026, a new version of 'Kesäillan twist'-previously recorded by the Silhouettes (originally 'Kesäillan valssi' by Oskari Merikanto) - was released. This time, it bears the Anglo-American title 'Summer night twist' (streaming links below)
